Outside of the usual Smart security systems, thermostats, lights, and other heavily-advertised products for the home, we found a few iPhone gadgets that are just a little out of the mainstream and sure to please. With the holidays coming, it’s a fine time to geek out and find the perfect gift for Grandpa.

Doorbell
What about a doorbell that alerts you when someone gets close, shows you who it is, and lets you talk to them from your phone? Skybell and Ring are just a couple of the Smart doorbells on the market.
Smoke/and Intruder detector
Aisoul has a Wi-Fi Security Camera with a Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detector, Night Vision AND Two-way Audio for $118
Water Leaks
If you have an Insteon hub, they offer a water leak sensor you can place on the floor near your hot water heater--or maybe you’re one of those old souls who has a water bed upstairs. It will alert your iPhone before you need a flotation device to go deal with it.
Smart Door locks:
Kwikset Kevo (2nd Gen) Touch-to-Open Bluetooth Smart Lock is a lock which turns your iPhone into a front door key. Always a pleasure when your arms are full of groceries

Deeper turns your iPhone into a fish detector. It has a 50 meter radius ($199) and the fishermen are wild about this, not only by it’s ability to ‘show’ where the fish are, but also it’s ability to show the underwater topography of the body of water. There is also an older, cheaper model which sports a longer battery life (6 as opposed to 4 hours).
If you want to be the coolest kid at the gym, you can get a smart padlock, such as a Masterlock 4400D, or a Noke Padlock - Keyless Bluetooth Smart Padlock. A note here--these still aren’t quite perfected.
Your Body
Prophix by Onvi is a Smart video toothbrush which has a camera so you can use your iPhone to see inside your mouth for $400. We want to laugh at the price of this, but then remember how much we spent on our kids’ dentist because the kids insisted they ‘did’ brush their back teeth.
Bactrack Mobile Smartphone Breathalyzer $97 The biggest concern is from users who worry that the information used in their iPhone could be used against them, even though they say the device is stunningly accurate.
Car Fun
Hone is a charming keyfob designed to help you find your keys with your iPhone. ($49)
A Viper SmartStart will make your iPhone into an automotive electronic key fob. Pop the trunk, unlock the doors, and even make sure your vehicle is secure. ($149)
Money
Square Register, for merchants on the go, turns your iPhone into a credit card machine, so you can accept CC payments from anywhere. The information is encrypted, so it’s secure.
Geode is for those who are tired of carrying plastic. Not only can you convert your credit cards, but also the barcodes for loyalty cards, library and other membership cards, ($159)
While it can be said that money can’t buy happiness, it sure can buy some of these cool little gadgets. With so many iPhone gadgets on the market, and more coming out every day, the holidays are bound to be a gadget-geek’s dream come true.
